I will probably be blogging in the future about how electro blue (and various other bright colors) will be really hot this spring (I still need a new label for spring fashions; any suggestions?), but in the meantime, let me introduce you to the first present to myself this spring: the original Too Late silicon watch in, you guessed it, electro blue. Starbucks gets lighter.

I couldn't help but notice while browsing the local Target that Starbucks has introduced a few lighter options* in their out-of-the-store beverage lineup. None was I more excited about than the Double Shot energy drink getting a light option (I really don't think it was that bad to begin with, but whatever). Also, they finally came out with a light version of their vanilla-flavored bottled frappuccino. They've had a mocha version for a while, and let's be honest, people who buy a light version of anything labeled "mocha" are the same people that super-size their McMeal and order a Diet Coke.

Well, I warned of changes, and here they are. Nothing spectacular, but it's definitely shaping up to be a blog with more effort. That said, I think (and I say, I think, because I don't really know what will interest me in the future) that this blog is going to contain more things that I create personally or just seem more personal all around. That doesn't mean I'm going to start talking about my feelings. Even I don't care about that. I just mean personal design projects, photography, interesting things I encounter, etc.

Basically random shit. Or should I say, more random shit than I already post on here. This post is kind of pointless, but I thought it rude of me to just pretend like my blog doesn't look completely different. If you aren't excited about me throwing in personal projects into this blog, you can comment, and I might read it.

Things are speeding up and slowing down all at the same time, and I need a breather from this blog because ~~it's so stressful and time-consuming~~ I've got too much shit going on around me. Don't fret. It's January. I can't talk about Spring fashions until at least February, and don't even give me that "What about Winter?" bullshit because we all know that you just put on black and grey and hope you don't die of pneumonia out there. February will also mark the one year anniversary of this blog, and I appreciate all of the love and readership that I have gotten ~~from the two of you~~.

I can only type so much before my A.D.D. starts to... oh look at that shiny thing over there). Fucking finally. This show used to rule my Wednesday night (is that what night it came on? oh, I don't remember), and for the longest time the DVDs were unavailable, something about music rights. Well, apparently they figured that whole thing out, and now the complete series is available, and with Vonda Shepard singing us the blues on a consistent basis, it's likely worth it's weight in gold.

David Gray- Draw The Line

He's come a long way from Friday night traffics lights, and this album is fresh, yet familiar. Some of the tracks on this album feel like very indie versions of Maroon 5 songs, and I mean that in a good way. It's stripped down, yet catchy, and definitely has you wanting to sing it at the top of your lungs. Check out one of my favorite tracks below. Enjoy.

Recently, I've had to give a little bit more attention to J.Crew. For so long it was predictable casual waspiness (not that there's anything wrong with that, but there's a time and a place... like a yacht in Connecticut). Anyway, more so in women's than men's, but nevertheless, I've ran across some really amazing things. One that stands out the most is their new super slim 484 jean. It comes in some great washes, and fits like a glove. Definitely picking this one up.

This shit is good. I'm a pretty big fan of this entire cereal line (I can literally eat an entire box in only two days). The new Apple Caramel Pecan Crunch is not only delicious, but also good for you. All of the wheats and oats are whole grain and the apples are surprisingly convincing. Definitely a nice fall flavor, and a good addition to their lineup (Great Grains still owns my heart though).

If Lady Gaga doesn't release this as a single I'm going to stab her in the face. I don't love this new album, but I don't hate it either. Telephone featuring Beyonce is a great way to start your pregame on a Saturday night (and the lyrics are so true), and unlike Gaga's gratuitous guest spot on Beyonce's Video Phone, this duet doesn't feel forced. A Single Man.

The trailer to this movie is pure intrigue without a single word of dialogue. The Tom Ford directed A Single Man is generating a lot of buzz, and with actors like Colin Firth and Julianne Moore, it's bound to be well worth the hype. It comes out next Friday, and I think I might have to mark my calendar on this one (can you imagine the wardrobe choices with a director like Tom Ford?). Watch the trailer below.

He's a little bit jazz, a little bit pop, and a little bit rock with a fun British accent. It's a nice vibe, and definitely catchy and fresh. I like his unexpected style and definitely have already fallen in love with a few songs on this album ( like "Wheels", "Love Ain't Gonna Let You Down", and the amazing cover of Rihanna's "Please Don't Stop The Music"). Belgian waffles have been on my mind. Don't ask me why. It wouldn't even be an entertaining story. Either way, I don't think I can call myself a true chef until I own a waffle maker, and this one is top of the line. It's a no peek waffle maker which means that it's a big ol' tease. Seriously. It may be the most beautiful and amazing gift card you can receive. It's solid black with the simple word "iPhone" on it. The only thing that could be more amazing is the iPhone itself. It's like a ticket to a magical fairy land where apps and the modern world live (already). So for those of you who haven't jumped on the biggest mobile bandwagon of the past few years, now's the time. I forgot how ridiculously awesome this eye cream is. I used to use it a year or so ago, but since moved on to other eye creams (there's so freakin' many of them). Anyway, I tried this one again while in Sephora a few days ago, and wow. What a difference it made in only an hour or so. I read in GQ that the secret ingredient in this eye cream is the grape seed extract, and you know how much I love the benefits of ~~wine~~ grapes.

This word is new to me. I'll admit it. I don't know every word, and I'm not afraid to look it up when the time comes. I like it because there was definitely a void of this meaning in my life that has now been filled. Especially in this time of emails, text messages, and the like. Pithy works great to describe the tone of a response or the context of communication.

There's no denying it. Fur is everywhere. Real. Fake. Whatever. Designers are throwing it on everything, and I'm okay with that (but don't bust out that fur vest just yet; let's leave that to the ladies). Rule of thumb for fur: limit it to just accessories and detailing, and only wear it if it makes sense to your outfit. Gratuitously throwing fur on any ol' thing is not fashion. And, yes, fur is a bit silly, so don't take yourself too seriously in it either.

Now I'm not one to stray away from my beloved Starbucks coffee, but I've found an Italian-roasted coffee in a can that definitely qualifies as a suitable alternative. The Illy latte macchiato is amazing. The flavor is a bit nutty and very smooth. You can find it at Whole Foods when you want a pick-me-up that isn't Starbucks. Enjoy!

Mrs. Meyer's cleaning products and soaps are not only well designed but also great smelling. This year's holiday scent is Iowa Pine, and just like the name suggests, it's a mix of cedar, pine, clove, and Christmas tree. Their soaps are never overpowering or fake-smelling. Just clean and fresh.

Pure and simple, this camera runs on magic. Somehow this tiny camera prints 2x3 images without an ink cartridge (aka magic), so you can print your digital images anywhere, anytime. They even have a sticky back just for shits and gigs. I can think of a few places this would be appropriate:

1. To let people know what they decided to leave the house wearing.
2. To write your number on the back and give to a cute stranger.
3. To hand it to an ogler and let them know that pictures will indeed last longer.

Sara Groves - Fireflies And Songs

Seriously, I cannot say enough about Sara Groves. She is my favorite Christian artist. Hell, she's really the only Christian artist that I listen to. Don't worry, it's not all about Jesus, for those nonbelievers. I think a comment on YouTube that someone left about one of her new videos says it best, "No one is as honest and vulnerable as Sara Groves." And I couldn't agree more. She is such an amazing songwriter, it's sometimes unbelievable to me. Her new album Fireflies And Songs came out last Tuesday, and it is a true testament to her talent. My favorite track currently is "Love," but since the album is so new, I could only find the video for the song "It's Me" on YouTube, which is also quite nice, but I recommend checking out the entire album on iTunes. Starbucks introduces the Caramel Brûlée.

Today, along with introducing VIA in decaf (I know, what's the point, people, really?), Starbucks also unveiled a new holiday drink, the Caramel Brûlée. Of course I had to try it, and I must say, it's pretty amazing. Most of Starbucks' holiday drinks are full of frill for the sake of frill, but this one is different. They didn't go for a traditional holiday flavor (I'm not sure there was even one left that they hadn't covered, unless, of course, they did a Pine Tree Latte), but instead tried something a little more classic, yet extremely different than your typical traditional caramel latte. The best way I can describe it is a hint of kettle corn mixed with actual crème brûlée and a Werther's Original. Bottom line, I don't typically indulge in the holiday drinks, but this one will be a great way to wind down the day or finish off a nice dinner.

Thanks to the discovery from a friend, I now have this little gem in my life that makes me crack up so badly without really understanding why. I don't know if it's the stop action way of filming or the catchiness of the song or the fact that this person had too much free time on their hands, but whatever it is, I'm buying it. For whatever reason, the holidays turn me into a domestic trainwreck. Combining my obsession with eating healthy with my obsession for festive holiday foods is not an easy task. Luckily, there's the internet, and what I always say, "No matter what your problem is, someone online has already figured it out." True, no? Anyway. I browsed quite a few recipes before landing on my first endeavor, iced vegan pumpkin spice cookies. Now, I don't really give a shit that they're vegan. You won't see me trying to find an "egg replacer" which, let's be honest, what the hell could that even possibly be? No, I'll use a real egg. As far as butter goes, I'm going to use Smart Balance because it's definitely a healthier option. I'll let you know how it goes, but judging by the pic, these are going to be some tasty cookies (and you knew I had to have something with pumpkin in it). Ingredients below (view the source and site here).

1/2 cup vegan margarine (I use Earth Balance’s vegan buttery sticks)
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 cup canned (or fresh) pumpkin puree
egg replacer equivalent for 2 eggs (1 tbsp replacer mixed with 4 tbsp warm water)
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour
2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1/2 tsp ginger
1/4 tsp allspice
1/2 cup wheat germ (optional)

Well Lady Gaga has got another song stuck in my head. I will give it to her, ~~she~~ her team of writers are really good. They create catchy tunes that head straight to number one. If Miss Gaga gets to number one with this single, Bad Romance, (which I imagine she will), she will be the first ever to have five number ones on a debut album, although I'm not sure this one should count since it's on a re-release. I wouldn't typically enjoy shiny jackets. They seem a bit too sceney and urban, but as they're coming in subtle colors like navy, olive, and black, I don't mind them as much. Pair them with dark jeans and buffalo plaid, and they're down right stylish.

Just when you thought you had escaped anything else pumpkin, here we are again. But imagine the heart attack I had at Whole Foods when I came across the spiced pumpkin pie Clif Bar. Seasonal, of course, but all the more intriguing because of it. I'm not sure why the packaging makes it look like it belongs in Antarctica (I almost spelled that right the first time), but whatever the reason, it is pure amazingness. Two of my favorite things brought together at last: pumpkin pie and Clif Bars.

In honor of Sesame Street's 40th Anniversary (you've probably noticed Google getting the Oscar The Grouch treatment), American Apparel will have various tees displaying characters from the show. None stand out to me like the ~~Big Gay Bird~~ Big Bird tee. What exactly is going on here? He has a scarf tied around his neck, he has sunglasses on his head, he's wearing a cookie monster tee, and he's carrying a purse. He's going on a gay cruise. Just saying.

I am obsessed with this drink by Pure Protein. I discovered it at Trader Joe's, and I can't even tell you how shocked I am at how good it is taste-wise and nutrition-wise. One can (I could only find the image to the 35 grams of protein can, which you can also find at Trader Joe's) contains 0.5 grams of fat (0 saturated), 4 grams of carbs (2 of them fiber), 1 gram of sugar, and 21 grams of protein. How is that even possible?! Not only that, but the can only contains 100 calories. It doesn't make sense to me, but I'll be drinking it as often as possible. And you know what? It tastes amazing too. Score.

Well this officially means the holidays are among us (which I'm okay with since I'm trying to block out my messy Halloween weekend) when Starbucks is bringing out the red cups. I think I'm okay with my blog turning from pumpkin to peppermint (you've had enough pumpkin, right? I know. I know. There's really not enough pumpkin-flavored/smelling things in the world to ever be satisfied. I thought you'd see it my way).

With this debut comes the peppermint mocha (which you can really get year-round because they always have the ingredients), the gingerbread latte, and the eggnog latte. It's by NO MEANS as exciting as the pumpkin spice latte debut, but it'll do for now.

I've been a fan of Mozella for a while now. Her clever writing and unique voice make for amazing pop songs that have the legs to stand on their own. Her new album Belle Isle was released on the twentieth of this month, and definitely has influences of 50's pop and motown. It's fun music with catchy lyrics. Sure, it's daring. But honestly, if you can't rock male leggings out while you're young, when can you? Don't worry, there are a few ways to wear it best without looking like you forgot your pants. First off, if you go with a dark legging, most jeans have gotten so skinny these days that chances are most people will mistake them for pants. Secondly, never wear leggings with anything that hits at your waist. You're not a professional figure skater. There's no need to appear that ~~bulgy~~ clingy. Wear long, loose tees and oversized sweaters and cardigans. Bloomingdale's has a great ad running in magazines right now showing just how to do it (check it out above; it's the guy on the right, he's a bit cut off in this picture, only one I could find).

Next week on Friday, October 30th, my new store Zara on Michigan Avenue in Chicago will open. I couldn't be more excited to be a part of this momentous opening for the number one retail company in the world! On Thursday, October 29th, the night before, there will be a launch party. Opening today is the movie Amelia (about the life of Amelia Earhart) starring Hilary Swank and Ewan McGregor. I've been a fan of Hilary Swank for a while, and not just because she's won two Academy Awards. I think this movie will be beautiful and most definitely generate some Oscar buzz. I've been a fan of Think Thin bars for a while. They have high protein, no sugar, and a good amount of vitamins. They don't taste half-bad either. Today I had the Chocolate Mudslide, and holy shit. I'm not the biggest fan of chocolate, but I'm obsessed with espresso, and there's freakin' espresso beans made into the bar! It's amazing, especially if you're a fan of chocolate covered espresso beans. I definitely recommend giving this one a try.

We can order online at Topman (now if only we could go to the store). So exciting that this UK-based retailer is finally offering women's and men's clothes online now. Not sure when they opened the US men's online store (maybe I've been living under a rock), but glad it's here. I haven't ordered anything yet, but it's nice to browse something new.

I've been seeing a lot of encrypted advertisement for this movie, 2012. Apparently the Mayans or Incas or someone who thought they were smart and could predict the future even though stupid Europeans killed them anyway thought that the world would end in 2012. That said, the movie bases itself around all of the evidence that they found to say that that is true. Which brings me to another point, um, isn't that a bit scary for us, you know, the ones living right now, vastly approaching 2012? Maybe not show us so much hard evidence. Watch the trailer below.

And a lot of other things thanks to their VIA site dedicated solely to the random and interesting ways people are using the instant coffee. Pretty cool, I think. I like that Starbucks doesn't just produce a product, they get behind it 100%. The cupcake recipe caught my attention because, well, who doesn't want a little jolt in their dessert? (I'm a big fan of tiramisu).

I've always been a fan of that little can (rhyming is fun!) of V8 juice. It's such an easy way to ~~mix a bloody mary~~ get your daily serving of vegetables. And now they've come out with a soup line that is quite amazing. I bought the sweet red pepper, and I love it. I used it as a pasta sauce, and although it had a very Chef Boyardee consistency, it was absolutely delicious. Enjoy!

I'm hooked. I'm hooked on this salad that I made up while being lazy and visiting the salad bar at my local Whole Foods. Honestly, I could make this salad for 1/4 of the cost that they charge me, but I don't care. It's easy, and I loooooooovvvvvvvveeeee it. Here's how I do it.

I had almost forgotten about this little gem, but you know I can't pass up anything that has the word "pumpkin" or "protein" on it. I remember having this drink last year around this time, and it's actually really good. It combines soy milk and pumpkin puree to create an interesting and fall-festive protein drink. It's only seasonal, so get it while it lasts!

Who would have thought high-tops would come back in? Now don't get me wrong, these aren't the same high-tops you wouldn't be caught dead in a few years ago. These are way cooler than that. One trend that I'm noticing throughout all fashion at the moment is this wave of dressy as casual. We are so very close to having it all. We have access to looks and styles from straight off the runway thanks to places like Forever 21, H&M, Top Shop, and ZARA. That said, it's time to lose the term "dressing up." You should be "dressing up" everyday, because now it's too easy not to.

And how does this tie into high-tops? Well, today's high-tops are fashion-forward, dressier versions of their predecessors. Dressy is the new casual. Live every day like it's the most amazing you've ever looked in your entire life.

If you're not already obsessed with the fragrance (and please check out the new Nuit L'Homme), then you should be, and here are two other reasons to love Yves Saint Laurent. The anti-fatigue caffeine stick (yes, it actually has caffeine in it) helps to freshen up the face whenever, wherever. Wick it on, and look instantly refreshed. The touche éclat (which means radiant touch) works like a concealer, only it's even cooler because it pumps up with a click, much like a pen. Either way, at $40 each, these are really must haves. A little difficult to find, so I suggest ordering online, but with a little work, you might find it at select department stores.

Mrs. May's Naturals is a food company with great nut snacks. At eleven grams of fat (it's good fat, remember, with only two grams saturated), nine grams of protein, and only four grams of sugar, the Pumpkin Crunch snack made from pumpkin seeds is a great thing to have lying around when you feel like munching. There's no cholesterol, no preservatives, and it's gluten free, dairy free, wheat free, and vegan. Enough said.

I believe that fashion trends rise to a peak and then slowly drop back off. This fall, I think plaid is hitting it's peak. We've been seeing it every fall since a couple of years ago, but it seems like this fall is a full-blown plaid explosion. This is the peak. Next fall it will be a little less, and then a little less until it's gone. That said, we're seeing fall branch out into other areas other than scarves and shirts, mainly outerwear and suits. Play it up people. Plaid's the name of the game.

On September 15th, Starbucks decided to go across America promoting their ~~new~~ instant coffee, VIA. They stopped in Chicago today (I don't know why since we've had VIA almost a year, but whatever; Starbucks loves Chicago, and we love Starbucks), and the YouTube video is hilarious.

The clearing mattifier from Dermalogica is amazing. I tend to get a bit shiny during the day, and this stuff really works. It uses organic silicone (I don't know why it needs to be organic, but whatever) to soak up excess oil while smoothing your skin AND keeping it from breaking out. Yes, please! You can find it at ULTA, which I would link to right now if their site wasn't down for maintenance.

Starbucks releases two new iPhone apps.

I am obsessed with these applications. The first one, the typical Starbucks app, uses your location to find a Starbucks near you, which sounds really basic, but it's so much more. Not only does it find the location, but it tells you what that location carries, if it's open or not, and you can make it your favorite location. Additionally the app lets you create your own drinks (even labeling them correctly so that you sound like a Starbucks connoisseur when ordering) and giving you all of the nutrition information even when you customize them (including the number of milligrams of caffeine). The second app let's your check your Starbucks card balance and add money to it. This is awesome, especially on days like today when the barista had to come find me because my card didn't have enough money on it to cover my purchase. Would be nice to know this ahead of time. The too-catchy-for-words song Evacuate The Dancefloor by Cascada is a great departure from her predictable (and let's be honest, a bit dated) sound of her previous work. Think of it as the antithesis of the v-neck tee. While you've been showing off your chest for some of spring and most of summer, it's time to cover up your décolleté with scarves and turtlenecks. That's right, I said turtlenecks. But don't think of your choir teacher's stuffy turtlenecks. Think of thin cotton ones and soft wool ones with messy scrunching at the neck. In addition to turtlenecks, another great item this fall is circle scarves. It takes all of the guess work out of how to properly style your scarf, and takes a normal outfit and makes it a bit more interesting.

For the most part, C.O. Bigelow products are so-so. They aren't bad, they aren't great. They're just average. That said, I have very positive things to say about the Acai Repair Night Cream. It's meant to repair all of the damage done to your skin during the day (damn you, free radicals!), and I'm sure it does, but the big shocker for me was how well it moisturized my skin and even cleared up my face a bit (it's not meant to do that, so this was a very positive side-effect). The cream is quite thick, so you don't use much, and for being a basic line, I definitely recommend it.

Starbucks releases a new "lite" version of it's bottle frappuccino.

At only one hundred calories, Starbucks has released a new Mocha Lite bottled frappuccino. The blue packaging seems a bit odd to me, almost like it's sugar-free or for diabetics (it is made with Splenda). I also don't love that it's only coming in the mocha flavor for the time being. It's like they knew the fatties who go for the mocha needed this caloric reduction more than most.

Much like the new redesign, the mocha lite is no where to be found on Starbucks' website (seriously, can we update that thing already?). I did however find a picture of it, and the new redesign at Costco.com (still no sign of the redesign of the others).

I threw on something green the other day, which is quite daring for my almost all-grey wardrobe, and I thought to myself, wow, why am I not wearing more green? Then a few days later, a friend of mine informed me that Anna Wintour was thinking the same thing. Of course if we're going to bring green into the fall, it can't be just any green. It has to make sense. Forest green is the most logical, but please don't pair it with navy or burgundy. We don't need a rekindling of the jewel tones of the 90s.

Clear Care.

As I have mentioned before, I have been having some issues with my ~~stupid fucking contacts~~ eyeballs recently. Not anymore, thanks to a suggestion from my friend, Jessica, on Clear Care contact solution. Now normally, I would be like, pish, whatever, it's contact solution. What is that going to do? But honestly, this is like crazy bubble shit, suspended in the air lenses sci-fi stuff. You pop your contacts into this special tube thing with little lens cages in it. Then you drop it into the solution, and wah-lah! It starts fizzing and bubbling. It's pretty cool, actually. It has to stay in there at least six hours, and you can't use the solution anywhere except for that case (i.e. don't put it directly in your eye). Every night before I go to bed, I feel like I'm doing a lab experiment, and my eyes have never felt better.

B12 shot.

So I have found out recently that maybe my red blood cells have been slacking off a bit, and I could have a possible low-iron deficiency. Nothing serious, but annoying nonetheless. So I bought some iron pills, and after a few days of unwanted side effects, my mom suggested that I get a B12 shot. Now I have no idea what the hell that is, but doesn't it sound fun?

Well, after Googling it, I found this little gem:

And I also found this and this, which may mean I should just eat some fortified cereal or just giggle a lot. Either way, B12 just sounds like a ray of sunshine. We'll see how it goes.

Wood grain is for sure fall.

I've mentioned before that I'm a bit obsessed with wood grain this season. So obsessed, that one wall in my new apartment is going to be plastered with a wood grain contact paper (that's actually wood laminate flooring mounted to the walls in the picture above). It's going to look swell, I promise. That said, I'm delighted at the small places that wood grain has been popping up in design all over. It's a warm, inviting look, and I think when it's paired with the right thing (think modern type face on products or stainless steel in interior design) it can seem really fresh and new.
